The first President of the
Illinois Police Association was Frank Gahan of
Elgin, Illinois and the first Secretary was Ben DeJaegers of
Moline, Illinois.
Over the years, the
Illinois
Police
Association
(IPA)
has been instrumental in getting legislation passed that
benefits Police Officers.
Some of these laws have dealt with wages, liability payments
by the State of Illinois, pensions, indiscriminate use of the
polygraph, promotions and the Police Officer's Bill of Rights,
just to list a few.
We also work to defeat legislation that is not favorable to
police officers.
